Eurano is a custom application that uses a GIS base to perform calculations for railway noise immissions. The system makes it possible to enter various types of data or read them from file, to introduce noise-reducing measures, and to determine their effect.

Eurano contains a highly detailed GIS representation of the railway network. The calculations are complex because they need to take into account the properties of tracks and rolling stock as well as the geographical layout (e.g. two intersecting tracks rather than two parallel tracks).

Eurano is in use in 5 countries and is currently being used to perform noise calculations for some 11,000 km of European railways.

The first version of Eurano was developed in 1999 by Q Delft, and we have managed and maintained the system ever since. The first version of the software was followed by numerous additions in consultation with the (international) users group and the client.

The work on Eurano by Q Delft involved specifying the required modifications in consultation with the client, managing and updating the database, correcting any errors, maintaining the documentation, and distributing new versions.
