KIWI is a web-based knowledge base developed by Q Delft that allows large quantities of data to be accessed and visualised. KIWI presents the data in clear user-customisable tables, charts, and maps. The keywords of this application are user-friendliness, accessibility, and versatility.

History

KIWI, short for ‘Kwantitatieve Informatie via Web-Interface’ (quantitative information through web interface), evolved from an application called KOSMOS, for ‘Kennisbank Onderzoek en Statistiek Management Openbare Sector’ (public sector management research and statistics knowledge base; see also www.kosmos-kennisbank.nl).

KOSMOS was developed by Q Delft for the Ministry of the Interior to provide access to information about public sector employment and management issues. Its core task is to generate reports in the form of tables and charts that can be used by staff without any statistical background knowledge. The application is user-friendly in concept, enabling users to easily add and visualise data, tables, and subjects.

Following the successful introduction of KOSMOS by the Ministry of the Interior, other parties also declared their interest in the application. Using KOSMOS as a basis, Q Delft then developed KIWI, which is available to all customers. KIWI is suitable for any type of data that needs to be available on a large scale to produce dynamically generated statistics.

Generating reports

KIWI can be used to generate reports based on predefined tables or by means of customer-provided rows and columns. Users can select data and then choose a suitable layout. The resulting tables and charts can be exported to Microsoft Word and Excel file formats. If users provide their own tables and charts, KIWI will insert notes and source information to indicate the origin of the data.

Representativeness and privacy

KIWI includes mechanisms to ensure the representativeness and privacy of data. A privacy algorithm blocks the report generator if the data scope is too limited or if the data can be traced back to individual persons.

Online storage of reports

In addition to being able to calculate index figures and percentages, KIWI can be used to store information content such as reports and publications. KIWI also includes options for searching through reports, extracting information, and sorting by subject.

Easy implementation

KIWI is available in server licence and ASP model forms. In the server model, KIWI is installed on your own application server. In the ASP model you can use KIWI on a server maintained by Q Delft, which saves you installing the software and lets you publish your research results in next to no time. KIWI is easy to integrate into your own website. To differentiate access to KIWI according to different groups of users, a user group authorisation mechanism is available.

KIWI offers a complete solution and can be made ready for service in very little time. Let Q Delft help you decide how KIWI can meet your information requirements.
